My good buddies (and incredible musicians) The Henry Clay People are gearing up for a busy summer. They have an album, aptly titled Twenty-Five For The Rest of Our Lives, coming out on June 26 and recently announced a five-week summer tour that will see them alongside great bands like Motion City Soundtrack, The Airborne Toxic Event and The Futurebirds.

Listen to “Hide,” off of the upcoming record and check out full tour dates below.

MusicfestNW Announces Lineup

Willamette Week’s MusicfestNW is a staple for any Portland music lover’s September. The five-day festival has quickly attracted national attention, with audiophiles from all over the  U.S. of A. trekking to the City of Roses for a week of shows.

In the past few years, the festival has branched out to headlining acts hosted in the city’s beautiful, outdoor Pioneer Square, and this year, Silversun Pickups, Girl Talk, and Beirut will grace the stage.

In addition, 150 bands will play at 16 clubs around the city. You can find ticket information here and the full lineup (in alphabetical order) below.

NO @ The Old Style Guitar Shop 5/23/12

At the beginning of the week, NO announced that a secret show would be happening at an undisclosed location on Wednesday, May 23rd. The show was RSVP only, and the first 50 attendees would get in. On Wednesday morning, the band emailed a handful of fans the show details, and at 8 pm the five-piece, accompanied by a cellist, put on a lovely acoustic set at Silverlake’s Old Style Guitar Shop.

The quaint house-turned-retail space was a nice fit for the indie-rock outfit’s anthemic tunes. The quintet played songs from its EP, Don’t Worry, You’ll Be Here Forever, and surprised its intimate audience with three new tracks—two of which are set to be released on an upcoming 7”. Check out photos below.

Reptar - “Sebastian” (Video)

Reptar released its debut full-length, Body Faucet, at the beginning of this month, and yesterday premiered the video for the album’s first single, “Sebastian.”

The clip, directed by Deadhorse, Ben Fries, and Jesse Cain, combines performance footage of the band’s lead singer, Graham Ulicny, shot from several angles simultaneously to create a surreal and cubistic effect, with living tableaus. The tableaus depict the story of Saint Sebastian, the Christian saint and martyr and earliest gay icon, who was tied to a tree and shot with arrows before ultimately being clubbed to death for his criticism of the Emperor.

The kinetic, afro-influenced indie-poppers will be playing at the Sasquatch music festival this weekend, so if you’re in attendance, I suggest you check them out.

2nd Annual Hudson Block Party

To all of my music lovers out in Los Angeles, the 2nd annual Hudson Block Party is happening this Sunday, May 20th. Aside from hosting a great lineup, the event is co-sponsored by the City of West Hollywood & The Chamber of Commerce and will showcase 30 vendors and several charities, not to mention four full bars!

The doors are at 11 am and the party should last until the late hours of the night.

Mystery Jets - “Greatest Hits”

This latest single by Mystery Jets may be the best breakup song, ever (in a High Fidelity kind of way). The almost-four-minute-long track recalls a breakup by talking about splitting up the record collection and reminiscing over memories attached to each album, all in a upbeat, jangly Brit-rock sort of way. Listen to the track below, and keep your eyes peeled for Mystery Jets’ upcoming album, Radlands, which is slated for a June 5th release in America.

Gauntlet Hair Live at The Satellite, 5/11/12

Last Friday, I saw Gauntlet Hair at Silverlake’s iconic club, The Satellite. After seeing the duo open for Unknown Mortal Orchestra in the latter part of 2011, I had been anticipating another opportunity. The avant-pop twosome’s self-titled debut album was one of my favorites last year, and what I like about the live show is how Craig Nice (drummer) and Andy R. (guitarist/vocalist) bring the songs to life. With a live bassist accompanying them, the trio adds a new dimension to the already brilliant tracks and gives them an energy that cannot be conveyed via record. Needless to say, the show kicked ass. Check out photos below (sorry for the crap lighting. The Satellite’s “blue” tinge can be hindering).

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros - “Mother” (Video)

I know it’s past Mother’s Day, but it’s never too late to celebrate mommas. Starbucks hooked up with the Every Mother Counts, an organization dedicated to reducing global maternal mortality, and released a compilation that includes “Mother” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The CDs cost $12.95, and $8 of that goes to the organization (if purchased between May 1st and December 31st of this year). Watch the heartfelt video for “Mother” below.
